Griha Pravesh Pooja & Housewarming
Pooja

Griha Pravesh, a Hindu tradition, involves conducting a puja ceremony during an auspicious muhurat (time) to mark the first entry of a person into a new house. This ritual aims to purify the environment and safeguard the dwelling from negative energies.

Typically, the selection of an auspicious date and time for entering a new home is determined by the priest, who consults astrological charts and the local Panchang. Additionally, there are numerous dos and don’ts or guidelines associated with the Griha Pravesh Pooja Vidhi, aimed at fostering positive energy and inviting prosperity for the family.

The rituals of Griha Pravesh serve to purify and imbue the house, its environs, and the air with spirituality, establishing a sacred and divine ambiance. This practice is believed to usher in prosperity, good fortune, and sound health for the occupants of the dwelling.

Things To Do Before A Pooja

📅

Choose The Auspicious Date

It’s advisable to schedule Griha Pravesh on auspicious days. Favorable occasions for such muhurats include Vasant Panchami, Akshaya Tritiya, Gudi Padwa/Ugadi, Navratri, Dussehra/Vijayadashami, Dhan Teras, and Deepawali. However, it’s best to avoid days like Holi, eclipses (Grahan), Adhikmas, and Shraddha Paksha. Consulting with your local priest can help determine a suitable date.

📋

Get The Pooja List From The Priest & Start Procuring The Items

Once the date is confirmed, the Pujari provides a list of necessary items for the pooja. You can procure fresh items like Banana Leaves, Beetle, and Mango leaves from local Indian shops. If time permits, you can also order flowers and flower strings online.

Once you have collected all the pooja items, pack them in a designated pooja box to ensure nothing is forgotten. Don’t overlook essentials like ladders or chairs, plates, trays, utensils, water bottles, mats for sitting, and other household necessities.

🏠

Complete The Construction

It’s crucial to conduct the Griha Pravesh pooja only after the construction work is completed. Moving into an unfinished house is discouraged and may pose safety risks. Ensure essential utilities like electricity, water, and basic amenities are functional before performing the pooja.

Things To Do On Previous Day Of The Pooja

🧹

Clean The Entire Home

After receiving the keys from the builder/agent, kindly proceed to the site to ensure all amenities such as cooler, heater, water, and gas are functioning properly.

Prior to conducting the Griha Pravesh pooja, it’s essential to meticulously clean the entire home, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. This cleansing ritual is believed to attract positivity and good energy into your new residence.

Before commencing the pooja, thoroughly mop every corner of your home. Organize the pooja materials systematically, removing any wraps or plastic covers and arranging them in trays or bowls.

🌸

Decorate the House Entrance

The main entrance, known as the Simha Dwara, holds great significance as it represents the face of the Vastu Purush. During the Griha Pravesh pooja, ensure to adorn the front door with fresh flowers and a toran made of mango leaves and blossoms.

Enhance the entrance with a vibrant rangoli/kolam/muggu design, ensuring it does not obstruct the pathway. Adorn the door with bottu decorated using haldi and kumkum, and inscribe symbols of prosperity like the Swastik and “Shubh Laabh” to invite luck and abundance.
